AYTHAMI IS THE SECOND OFFICIAL SIGNING OF THE SEASON

13 Jul 2007 -- President Lendoiro made another silent signing during the last hours. One day after the arrival of Andrés Guardado was confirmed, Deportivo secured the incorporation of Aythami Artiles, a promising central defender that's coming from Arguineguín, the same land of Valerón. Deportivo is paying €618.000 to UD Las Palmas for the transfer.

In the middle of the speculation about the possible departure of Fabricio Coloccini to Zaragoza, Deportivo has made the second signing for the season 20072008. It's Aythami Artiles (21), a young and promising central defender that other clubs like Atlético Madrid, Getafe and Recreativo had on sight. He was born in Arguineguín, the same land of Valerón and David Silva. The Canarian defender has made all his professional career in UD Las Palmas and now he is the new alternative that Lotina has for the centre of his defence.

UD Las Palmas won the promotion to Segunda on the season 2005/2006, and Ayhtami made a good performance during the return of the Canarian squad to the so-called 'silver category'. He has been described as a defender that manages the aerial game, and that possess a good speed and a solid control of the ball. He also played a couple of games with Spain's U-19 squad.

Ayhtami's contract with Las Palmas was ruling out in June of 2008, and the Canarian club tried to extend if for four years, but the youngster rejected the deal and other clubs started to show their interest in him. It was reported that Atletico Madrid was hoping to sign him, and according to La Opinión A Coruña, Recreativo offered €400,000 for the defender, but it was Deportivo who convinced Miguel Ángel Ramírez (Las Palmas's president) with its €618,000 offer.

Las Palmas announced the details of the deal trough its official website and canaldeportivo.com confirmed it on Thursday. According to the report, Depor will pay €318,000 in cash, while the other €300,000 will be completed during the next six months (€150,000 in September and €150,000 in December). Ayhtami is signing a five-year contract with Depor and he's the fifth central defender that Lotina has in order to prepare the new season (the others are Lopo, Coloccini, Pablo Amo and Rodri).

It's probable that the central zone will experience more chances during the next days, if Coloccini is transferred to Zaragoza, Lotina will ask for a new central defender with experience in Primera. And if the Argentinean stays, at least one of the available options will be transferred of loaned out (probably Pablo Amo or Rodri). If you want to know more about Aythami Artiles, click [here].

AYTHAMI IS HAPPY WITH HIS ARRIVAL TO DEPOR

14 Jul 2007 -- Aythami Artiles is the last signing of Depor, he talked with reporters about his transfer to La Coruña. The central defender knows that it will be hard to win a place in the first squad, but he is hoping to learn a lot of things from Coloccini and Lopo. He also wanted to express his gratitude to Las Palmas, his former club.

After two days, the Canarian defender still can't believe that he is going to play in Primera: "This has been a thing to see and to not believe it. In a few hours, the club accepted the offer from Deportivo and they reached an agreement with my agent. I didn't have the time to say good bye nor to know when I will travel to my new destiny."

Despite that he is going to a new place, he is confident about his adaptation process: "There's a lot of Canarians over there, and I already know that my landing will be soft. I have a good relationship with Juan Carlos (Valerón), although we haven't talked yet about my transfer. I know less about Momo, Rubén or Manuel Pablo, because they are older and I never player with them. I know that I will feel like at home and that's a relief."

Aythami also said that he isn't worried about his lack of experience in Primera and is hoping that the Galician team will make a good campaign in la liga: "Deportivo is a great club, one that's always fighting for important things. I hope that in the next year, we will make a good season and that we will enter into Europe."

The young central defender knows that it will be difficult to win a place in the first squad, and he prefers to see Coloccini and Lopo more like teachers than as a rivals: "Coloccini is an international player with Argentina, and Lopo with Spain. I don't see them as enemies, because I'm 21 and I know that I still have a lot of things in the future. I see both of them as people that can teach me useful stuff. I will have to follow what they do and say over the grass. I will make the pre-season with the squad, and I will try to convince the coach."

He also wanted to thanks his former team, UD Las Palmas, for the confidence they put in him: "I am in indebted to them, I wish a better future for Las Palmas. I hope that the fans will continue to have the same behaviour, cheering and supporting the squad. I will love to see them returning to Primera as soon as possible."
