LOTINA'S FIRST PRESS CONFERENCE IN ABEGONDO
18 Jul 2007 -- Miguel Ángel Lotina talked in Abegondo's press room about the present situation of the club. The Basque coach explained some aspects about the pre-season of the first squad, and also answered the questions related to the exits and arrivals to Deportivo. The following is a summary of the main aspects that he analysed.
FIRST DAY IMPRESSIONS
It was just the first contact, we have made a training of resistance, we also introduced the ball to the session, but it's just a preparation work. We had a problem with Bodipo, but we hope that in a few days he will enter to the group. The others are fine. Bodipo's problem is related to his previous injury, we should remember that he went through surgery, so he is still not well, he still has the issues, let's hope that he will be fine soon.
THE PRE-SEASON
We were wishing to make three groups of players: the defenders, the midfielders and the strikers. But we had to compensate the groups in order to have a balance. About the friendly games, the club already has a report, we will face three rivals: Racing Vilalbés (July 25), Viveiro (July 26) and Xove Lago (July 27), every player will perform during 45 minutes, this is in order to have the proper work for everybody. Before the Teresa Herrera, I want one or two games, looking to that possibility, the club is studying if we would be able to play in Portugal, it isn't sure yet. After the Teresa Herrera, we want strong teams, if it's possible, against rivals with a better preparation than us.
REINFORCEMENTS
The first thing that I want is physical condition, without that, not even Cruyff is capable to perform well. I already have the ideas on my mind, as much about the exits and also about what we are missing. Logically, a left defender or maybe two, we can refer to this as an urgency. Since that point, the same positions that we already talked (striker, playmaker, defensive midfielder and right winger).
THE LEFT BACK DEFENDER
The deal with Filipe isn't closed yet, but the president told me that everything is in the correct direction, and I hope that it will be closed during the next hours. About the defender with experience, we already missed Raúl Bravo, and we will check what other possibilities we have. It isn't a position in which you will find a lot of options in the Spanish league, so we have to check the market. We have the option of an EU-player and we will study it, his name isn't public yet.
PERNIA
Pernía is a player that interests us, I should say that a lot. It's true that I tried to sign him for Espanyol, but we couldn't for the fact of being a foreigner, he is an interesting player. But so far, Atlético hasn't said anything about his exit, we should respect what his club says, we should also wait and see if he wants to come to Depor. We have other possibilities, we are looking to other options. The young Uruguayan defender (Juan Manuel Díaz)? He is an interesting youngster, but we already have a young team.
THE PLAYMAKER AND THE STRIKER
At the beginning and as far as we could, I want first the playmaker. About the striker, I want to check first how our people are. Also, there aren't too many strikers in the market with the capacity to improve what we already have, it depends on our possibilities, maybe during the final weeks of the market. It isn't easy because is something difficult to find, besides it isn't a priority because we already have people. About the playmaker, the president is talking with some player, I believe that it will be closed during the next days. The name? the president should tell you (he laughs)... we are looking at all the possibilities, we won't mention the name.
LAFITA
It seems that the player wants to come today (yesterday), we are waiting for him, the sooner he comes the better it is, we already started with the tactical work, the men we already have in the squad will enjoy an advantage, so let's hope that he will be here soon.
JAVI GARCIA
My recommendation to the president: he is a player that I like, he possess a tremendous future, but sincerely, I recommended that if he will come loaned for one year, we should think twice about it. Another thing is, if he might come with a buyout option, and to see Depor obtaining some benefit with him. But to bring here a boy from Madrid just to 'make' him for them, and that later Real Madrid will take him from us, I don't want it in that way. It's better to look other options.
REAL SOCIEDAD'S PLAYERS
No, no, no... we aren't counting with anybody from Real Sociedad, only if the conditions are favourable to us. But sincerely, we haven't looked to San Sebastián.
COLOCCINI AND LOPO AREN'T FOR SALE
It's what the president has always told me. We will sell them only if we see an tremendous offer. The youngsters need references and they are those references: Manuel Pablo, Sergio, Coloccini , Lopo... references inside and outside the pitch. I am planning to count on four central defenders and with another one from Fabril, In Fabril we have two good central defenders, that's enough, so if Coloccini stays, we will have an excess of one player for that position. If Coloccini leaves, we will search for another defender.
