06 Apr 2007 -- Riki admits that he isn't living a good moment in his career. The Madrilian striker talked yesterday with reporters and described the present campaign as unfortunate. However, he still has hope about the copa chances of Deportivo and also expects to be able to score some goals during the last liga games, an objective that's focusing his attention.
Q: Is this a season to be forgotten?
A: Well man, unfortunately yes. I believe that we still have to play ten games in la liga, and if I am able to play and score some goals, it will be saved, at least just a little. But if we take a look to my count of goals, I must say that I am not happy. Maybe I am not feeling the confidence that I was wishing to feel, but we must keep on going.
Q: How are you psychically?
A: Maybe a little... I don't know, impressed because I never faced a situation like this one, but I am a strong player and we must keep on going, off course.
Q: Besides, Adrián is pushing strongly.
A: Yes, off course. It's evident that he is a boy with a big projection. The other day, he made a good job during the thirty minutes that he played, and I congratulated him for that. It's what he has to do, to play like that, the most important thing here is the team and not the players, off course.
Q: When Caparrós changed you at the Camp Nou, you were making gestures with your face, like saying no. What was that?
A: Man, things that are there, nobody likes to be changed, but if the coach decided to make a move and if it ended well... It's clear that I am trying to do my best effort in every game, and when the things aren't working its because the things aren't working.
Q: So, the gesture was for the way in which the things were happening, or for the coach's decision?
A: No, it was everything. Because you are wishing to have better results on the pitch, because when everything was returning to normal I got injured, later it caused me to find myself once again, and nothing, we must keep on going.
Q: Are you upset because the fans are talking about relegating you to the bench?
A: I am a professional and it's clear that if I have to be on the bench, well nothing, we will have to try. As I said previously, the main thing is the squad. I don't care about the comments of the fans and the media.
Q: But you want to continue enjoying of the confidence of the coach.
A: I believe that the coach has gave me his confidence. It's clear that if a partner is making a better job, he has to play, and we have to accept that. The only thing that I can do is to work and comeback, but we don't know anything yet.
Q: You are a player with self-criticism.
A: Sure. It's useless to say that you are making a good job when the truth is that you aren't. But well, we have to keep on going.
Q: Are you feeling more confidence when you play with another striker?
A: I believe that I have played with a partner upfront since the beginning, maybe the exception was the game in Barcelona. So, I don't have complains about it. In this sense, I am OK up there, The only thing that I want is to score goals and do a good job.
Q: You are one of the men that suffers more fouls in the team, for that reason you spend a lot of time on the ground protesting the actions. Can this be a reflex from your current mental situation?
A: No, if they hit me what do you want me to do? I am a player that likes to have the ball and this has nothing to do with my mental state. What's true is that everybody is putting pressure on me... I understand that I was the most expensive signing and it's normal to hear all this criticism, it's something that won't keep me asleep, but it doesn't have anything to do with the infractions against me.
Q: You were the last player to leave during today's training, you were working with the shots on goal.
A: Yes, because we have to improve, specially to gain confidence.
Q: And the team, can you look forward to its objectives?
A: We still have to play for a lot of points. We don't have the mathematical salvation at our side, so we must keep on working. I believe that the team is capable of going up and this Sunday against Nástic, it's like a final just like every game until the end. These are three important points, like the other ones left, if we achieve a victory in front of the fans, we will be able to make a new step.
Q: Is an utopia to be thinking about Europe?
A: If we want to be realistic, we must think about going game by game and not in the UEFA cup, it will be difficult, and our way there could be the copa del rey.
Q: Are you dreaming about the copa?
A: Yes, because it's a pretty competition and the truth is that the title would be wonderful, besides achieving a title will add some prestige to me, it gives you access to Europe.
