DEPORTIVO 1 - DON BENITO 1: FABRIL GOES TO SEGUNDA B
23 Jun 2007 -- After seven years in Tercera, Deportivo B has finally achieved the promotion to Segunda B. It was close during the past season, but now it is a reality. Coach Tito Ramallo used the same lineup that achieved the 2-0 win in the first-leg. The youngsters didn't face too many difficulties and even increased the difference with a new goal scored by Chapi. Don Benito equalised at the end of the match.
Both squads started the game with peace. Deportivo B dominated the actions during the whole first half, but there wasn't any chance to score during the first fifteen minutes, only a long-distance shot of Nacho Matador that went out. Don Benito was trying to make damage with long balls and with long-distance shots, while Fabril was using the counterattacks.
The first clear occasion of the game occurred at minute 20, a combination between Iván Pérez and Rubén Rivera ended with this last player sending a powerful shot that was deflected by the keeper Gorka. A couple of minutes later, it was Borja who tried from long-distance, but his shot went out. And the chants of goal were heard in Abegondo after Chapi headed a free-kick taken by Iván Pérez (23').
The advantage gave more tranquility to Depor, although the game became more intense. The fans in Abegondo became angry after the visitors committed several tough fouls on Borja and especially over Alex. Don Benito had difficulties searching for the equaliser and they were only able to generate danger with crosses from both wings, but Fabricio didn't face too many troubles. The problems of the visitors were caused by Alex and Nacho Matador, both players were controlling the traffic in midfield and Don Benito reached half-time without making a shot on target.
Don Benito was needing three goals in order to eliminate Deportivo B, a mission that seemed very difficult to fulfil and that caused frustration in some players. Depor's boys suffered the consequences and Iván Pérez had to leave the pitch with a muscular injury. He was replaced by Herbert. Tito Ramallo commented that the promotion was the target of his players since the first game of the season: "This was our idea at the beginning of the campaign, to be promoted. It was a difficult achievement with the series in Anguiano and also with this one." Asked about the future in Segunda B, Ramallo just answered that "there will be time for that, now we have to celebrate."
