The game of Silva and Joaquín on both wings was decisive for this success, Depor suffered from the same impotence of past games and the initial strategy of Caparrós failed. The visitors took the lead thanks to Hugo Viana, Taborda equalised the score, but a few moments later Silva sentenced the game.
BEFORE THE GAME
Caparrós presented the expected 4-2-3-1 formation, Juan Rodríguez was the playmaker and the novelties were the return of Capdevila and Coloccini to the defensive zone, while Pablo Álvarez started on the right wing. Arizmendi also appeared in the starting eleven, the Madrilian was facing the team that has been chasing him during the last days.
In Valencia, the novelty was that Del Horno was left on the bench, Albiol played on the centre of defence and Moretti covered the left back. Meanwhile, the European dreams of Deportivo are over. With five games to be played, the distance with the UEFA positions is of six points, a difference that can be increased if Recreativo achieves the three points against Athletic Bilbao.
Now Depor will try to generate a miracle in copa del rey, the Galicians will play the second-leg of the semi-finals with the objective of defeating Sevilla by a 4-0 score (Wednesday, 21h00). A dream that seems unreachable. Later, Depor will pay a visit to Athletic Bilbao for la liga, a game that will be played on the next Sunday (17h00).
