02 Aug 2007 -- Antonio Barragán joined the squad on Monday, he enjoyed of two weeks of vacations after he played the U-20 World Cup with Spain. The Galician youngster said at Abegondo that he's willing to earn a place in the team, although he understands that Manuel Pablo and even Coloccini have an advantage over him.
After their participation with Spain during the U-20 World Cup, Antonio Barragán and Adrián López joined the pre-season work at Abegondo during Monday's morning. The first one of this players talked in the press room, the ex-Liverpool defender said that he is happy with the mentality imposed by Lotina "If we hold on the ball, we will have more chances of wining the games." was his first thougth.
However, Barragán also defended the philosophy that Caparrós used during the past season, a philosophy that was based in the direct and physical football "I like both coaches. Every one has a different method, and both are able to obtain results, but we can't despise what Caparrós did." It must be remembered that Caparrós was the one that allowed the debut of Barragán when he was at Sevilla.
The defender also commented that he's hoping to win the race in order to cover the right back, although he understands that other players are in a better position than him "Every time that you start a season, you do it thinking in making your best effort and you also want to have continuity. But I know that's tough because I have in front great players, Coloccini and Manuel Pablo, who can occupy my place, but I will do anything possible in order to convince the coach."
Barragán was also very clear when he talked about the team mates that have been already discarded by coach Lotina -Iago, Momo, Jairo, Antonio Tomás, Alcántara and Guirado- "Who doesn't have a spot in the squad, should realise that he has to leave."
