REVIEW: DEPORTIVO 1 - BETIS 0 (LA LIGA)
17 Sep 2007 -- Metamorphosis. Deportivo cleared the negative image left in the debut against Almeria with a convincing win over Betis. Andrés Guardado was the hero scoring the lonely goal of the match. The Galicians controlled the actions against a poor Betis, the only problem in Lotina's squad is that the lack of effectiveness continued to show up, but at least Depor has clinched the first win of the liga season.
BEFORE THE GAME
Despite the bad results in the first two matchdays, both coaches maintained almost the same squad of past occasions. In Deportivo, coach Lotina bet in the same 4-2-3-1 figure with Joan Verdú as playmaker, the surprise was to see Riki in the striking zone, because it was expected that Adrián would be the starter option.
Lafita covered the right wing, Guardado the left and Antonio Barragán played as right-back. In Betis, Cúper presented three novelties: Capi replaced Alberto Ribera in midfield, Mark Gónzalez did the same with Caffa and Mariano Pavone had to wait on the bench since Cúper preferred the option of José Mari for the striking zone.

The first approximation was for Betis, it was during a corner-kick on the right side, but Aoaute controlled the ball without problems. Deportivo dominated once again the actions during the second part, the first warning had as protagonists the most dangerous men on the pitch: Guardado and Riki. The Mexican youngster sent a new cross from the left and Riki headed the ball on target, but keeper Ricardo was there to repeal the effort. Riki had a new chance a few minutes later when he took advantage of a bad pass in Betis defensive area, but his shot was deflected by a defender when he was inside the box.
The game became fluid, the most clear occasion for Betis in the whole game was a dangerous counterattack started by Ricardo, the keeper took the ball after a free-kick and sent a long ball to Capi who run twenty meters to face Barragán and Manuel Pablo, first the midfielder eluded Barragán and then he sent a powerful shot at the edge of the penalty area, but Aouate was there to turn aside the ball.
The action ended in a corner-kick in favour of Betis, and Deportivo almost scored the second goal in the same play, because the counterattack ended in Guardado's boots, he run for a while and made a 20 meters-pass to Juan Verdú , the Catalan surpassed one defender and crossed keeper Ricardo with a low shot, but unfortunately, his effort hit the left post and later was cleared by the defenders.
Lotina tried to refresh the things and he sent Cristian to replace Lafita, the ex-Zaragoza didn't had a good game and the Basque coach was trying to give a new impulse to his attacking zone. Cúper tried to do the same thing with the introduction of Mariano Pavone and Fernando. Precisely, this last player enjoyed of the last occasion for the visitors, he found the ball in the edge of the penalty area and tried to volley Aouate, but the Israeli keeper jumped to punch the ball away.
